Made by Ford of England.
The Consul Capri production began in July 1961 with the “Capri 1340". An enlarged motor version, the “Capri 1500" came on the market in July 1962. The final copy of this rare English Ford Capri rolled off the assembly line in July of 1964. Fewer than 1485 were exported to the U.S. in the early 1960's. Less than a dozen are known to be on the road today in North America. This English Ford “Consul Capri” is of little relation to the German Ford Capri of the 1970's which was sold through the Mercury dealers in the US. They shared the same engine family in some models, but not the same version of the engine.
Currently this rare surviving Capri is powered by a newly built English Ford “Kent” crossflow four cylinder motor enlarged to 1700cc. It is fitted with high compression pistons, long duration camshaft, Weber carburetor, tubular exhaust header and a five speed manual transmission. This is a very fast and comfortable touring car recalling the essence of classic 1960's styling and motoring. Production in England and exports to the U.S. ceased with the introduction of the Ford Mustang from America in 1964.
Included with the sale of this car are many spare parts, manuals, books, period articles about the English Ford Capri including the November 1963 Road and Track with the test drive article, and two extremely rare original dealership sales brochures for this car.
